World Cup 2010

Filed Under (General) by on June 7, 2010

Every four years people all around the world go crazy for the soccer World Cup. This is the most popular sports event in the world! In America we call it soccer, but the rest of the world calls it football. (Hmm, which name makes more sense?)

This year’s World Cup will be held in South Africa and it begins on June 11th.

The 32 countries that have qualified for the World Cup

The 32 countries that have qualified for the World Cup

Only 32 countries can qualify for the World Cup. Then they are divided into 8 groups to play the other countries in their group. The two best teams from each group make it the round of 16 where they play a single elimination tournament.

Here is a video about the World Cup and it’s fans that we have been enjoying in class. We hope you like it!

Which countries are you cheering for in the World Cup?

Which country do you think will win this year’s World Cup?

    Dear class,
The team I want to win the cup is U.S.A or Argentina. The team that I think is going to win is Brazil. Who do you want to win the world cup or think is going to win?

    Dear students,

I am psyched for the World Cup! It is my favorite sporting event to watch. I love to watch the beautiful way they pass the ball and the incredible saves that the goal keepers make. I also like seeing all the fans and their different ways of celebrating.

I am cheering for Cameroon, and I predict that the Netherlands will win.

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Salsich

I think there are a lot of people around the world who are excited to watch the world cup.

Of course I am cheering for New Zealand, how ever I asked our class and it’s unanimous. We think Brazil will win.

On another note, we have two days left of school this year. Have a great summer. I am looking forward to traveling to your side of the world and visiting New York!

    Regards
    Mrs. Toa

We’re excited about our second ever world cup appearance but we don’t really think that New Zealand is going to win a game! Well see perhaps the USA will meet New Zealand in the final!

    Dear class,

I want U.S.A. to win even though the probability is low. I don’t really think they will win but I am still routing for us. In England the world cup was the biggest event every 4 years. Who do you want to win?
