Plastic Conservation

Filed Under (Science) by on June 12, 2012 and tagged

Our last science unit was about natural resources and conservation.

Natural resources are things we get from the environment that we use for survival or for fun. Some examples are trees, water, oil, and metals.

Conservation means things we can do to save natural resources and not waste them. For example, using both sides of a piece of paper to conserve trees.

This post will give some reasons why it is important to conserve (or not waste) plastic. We use plastic all the time in life, but it is made from oil which is difficult to get to, is messy, and is running out.

Here is a video two of our classmates made to explain more about plastic use and ways to conserve it:

Another fun way to learn about conservation is by playing EekoWorld on PBS Kids.

Many of us already do these things.

reusable items

We use reusable bottles, reusable lunch bags, and reusable plastic containers.

*

reusable shopping bags

Many of our parents also use reusable bags when they go shopping.

What are some items you use everyday that are made from plastic?

What are some things you do at home to help conserve other resources?
